Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
What is DBT?
DBT is an evidence-based form of psychotherapy that helps people understand and manage intense emotions, improve relationships, and build a more stable and meaningful life.
Originally developed for individuals diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, DBT is now widely used in South Africa and internationally to support a broad range of mental health and neurodevelopmental needs. This includes depression, post-traumatic stress, eating disorders, substance use challenges, self-harm, as well as support for individuals on the autism spectrum. It is also increasingly used within a neurodiversity-affirmative framework, which values and respects individual differences while focusing on practical, strengths-based skill development.
